PGAL Celebrates Groundbreaking of the New Yellow Garage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

Members of the PGAL Austin team participated in the celebration of the groundbreaking of the Yellow Garage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This significant expansion is set to transform the traveler experience by providing 7,000 new parking spaces and modernizing airport infrastructure to support continued growth.

Designed by PGAL, the Yellow Garage will feature state-of-the-art intelligent parking systems, fast automatic toll gates, and EV charging stations to ensure convenience and sustainability. Additionally, an enclosed pedestrian bridge will connect the Yellow Garage to the existing Blue Garage, offering seamless access to the terminal.

“PGAL is honored to be a part of this transformational project that will redefine accessibility and efficiency at AUS,” said Cris Ruebush, Principal at PGAL. “The innovative design and phased construction approach will allow the first 3,000 spaces to open by 2026, ensuring that airport operations continue smoothly while AUS expands.”

The Yellow Garage will be a seven-floor structure featuring approximately 7,000 parking spaces. The project includes a roadway realignment with additional lanes to enhance traffic flow. A dedicated entrance will be incorporated, allowing for more efficient and quicker access. The garage will feature stacked entry and exit ramps to streamline vehicle circulation. An enclosed pedestrian bridge will link the Yellow and Blue Garages, providing seamless connectivity to the terminal. A sophisticated open space detection system will assist drivers in efficiently finding available parking spots. Dedicated EV charging stations will be available to support sustainable travel initiatives.

This milestone also paves the way for a modernized Arrivals & Departures Hall, as the Yellow Garage will replace the existing Red Garage, making space for future terminal expansion.

The project, authorized with a $250 million construction budget, is self-funded through airport revenue sources and bond proceeds.

PGAL is working alongside Austin Commercial, the prime contractor, to ensure successful and timely delivery of this project as part of the broader Journey With AUS expansion program.
