LAX Terminal 1 Wins Gold at ICSC
The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) announced the winners of the 2019 North America Design and Development Awards competition recognizing excellence in innovation and creativity in the retail real estate industry.
This year’s winners include Terminal 1 at LAX which took home the Gold Award in the Renovations and Expansions category. URW Airports partnered with Los Angeles World Airports, Southwest Airlines, PGAL (Architect of Record), and Hensel Phelps (General Contractor) on the half-billion- dollar, curb-to-gate redevelopment of Terminal 1, which celebrated its grand opening last year after a four-year phased development.
The terminal includes 22 dining and retail experiences across nearly 24,000 square feet, including Urth Caffe, Trejo’s Tacos, Cassell’s Hamburgers, LA Original, Rock & Brews, and more.
The ICSC North America Design and Development Awards competition was open to shopping center owners, developers, management companies, architects, designers, retailers, or other professionals responsible for any retail project or retail store design that demonstrated exceptional development or redevelopment characteristics with a high degree of creativity and uniqueness within the U.S. and Canada.
