Two PGAL Projects Honored in ENR Best Projects Competition

Terminal C North at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and the Seguin Public Library earned accolades in the 2017 Best Projects competition, sponsored by ENR Texas and Louisiana.

Selected as the winner in the “Airport/Transit” category, United Airlines’ new Terminal C North Concourse is a two-level, 318,000-square-foot facility that accommodates 11 new narrow and wide body-equivalent gates and three renovated gates. Large expanses of windows throughout the concourse provide panoramic views to passengers and visitors. The holdrooms feature tech-enhanced lounge-style seating, and 20 new dining and retail options are conveniently integrated throughout the terminal.

PGAL Principals Cheryl Gajeske, AIA and Ivan Pire, AIA, led the design and engineering team, working in collaboration with project partners Faithful + Gould, VRX, Inc., JLA Construction Solutions and Manhattan Construction.

In the “Government/Public Buildings” category, the Seguin Public Library in Seguin, Texas, was selected as the best project of 2017. Located on a wooded site overlooking Walnut Creek, the contemporary two-story structure was designed to preserve as much of the site’s natural habitat as possible. Shaped to fit within several existing heritage trees and with ample glazing, the structure successfully blends exterior and interior environments. The new building enables the library to expand its collections and technology as well as facilitate additional opportunities for collaboration.

PGAL Principal Jeff Bulla, AIA, led the design of the library, working in collaboration with project partners 720 Design and Byrne Construction Services.
