PGAL is a Double Winner in the GalaVerde Awards
Two PGAL projects earned “Most Outstanding” awards in the 2018 GalaVerde Awards program, sponsored by the U.S. Green Building Council South Florida Region.
Located in Pompano Beach, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority Operations Center and Tri-Rail Station showcases the SFRTA’s commitment to sustainability. Built at the site of the original facility, the station features energy-efficient elevators and mechanical systems. A naturally ventilated platform canopy connects the station to public transportation systems. Oriented to reduce heat gain and leverage natural daylight, the Operations Center is constructed of recyclable precast concrete panels. A photovoltaic array atop the parking garage supports 100% of the station’s energy needs while offsetting a percentage of the Operations Center’s energy use.
The Florida International University Bayview Housing project is a 410-bed, nine-story high-rise apartment-style housing complex in North Miami. The building is the university’s first public-private partnership (P3) student housing project. Located directly on the bay, the residential hall offers unobstructed ocean views to the east and state park views to the north. The large, open lobby provides direct access to a courtyard and a curvilinear pool with beach entry and a large sun deck.
“Competition for GalaVerde Awards is always stiff, and the judges clearly felt that your projects’ adoption of green building strategies to maximize both economic and environmental performance particularly shined,” said Lee Cooke, executive director of the USGBC Florida chapter.
The projects were honored at a March 3 awards gala at the Young At Art Museum in Davie, Florida.
