Harris County Eastgate Cemetery
Located in Crosby, Texas, the 92-acre, master planned Eastgate Cemetery will serve the citizens of Harris County for the next 100 years.
Initially, Harris County Community Services Department commissioned PGAL to develop a master plan for the entire site. Once the plan was approved, PGAL began designing and constructing Phase I, which includes the development of approximately 11 acres with burial and cremation plots, a circular road system, decorative park-like detention, a pavilion, and a maintenance office center.
The site provides durable landscaping with colorful trees and low-lying scrubs along the perimeter of a serpentine paved road that winds through the grounds.
Located just north of the cemetery’s entrance, the pavilion is oriented at an angle that creates a striking sight from a distance without obstructing approaching visitors’ view of the grounds as a whole. Designed to provide a place where all beliefs are welcome, the pavilion’s architecture is open and vertical to the sky. PGAL used masonry as the primary material to create a scale that is inviting rather than overbearing.
The maintenance facility has a separate drive with a single office, small storage, and storage yard with a covered canopy for equipment. The maintenance facility’s exterior material matches that of the pavilion, so it softly blends with the site.
