Terminal D Checkpoint at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
PGAL served as architect of record for the IAH Terminal D Security Checkpoint Modernization Project.
This TSA security screening checkpoint (SSCP) renovation implemented the first Automatic Bin Return system in the United States. TSA selected the Dutch company Scarabee to provide their innovative checkpoint security system to increase passenger and bin throughput. The automated bin return system has improved the average processing rate of passengers by 25% to 60%.
The project also included a multi-phase renovation that modernized the four-lane to a five-lane checkpoint. The SSCP lanes were flipped 90 degrees and the area was expanded to double the available queuing area. The scope included new interior finishes, new LED high bay lighting, new TSA control rooms and FF&E. All construction was done overnight to minimize impact to passengers and airport operations during the phased construction and equipment installation.
Features Include:
Scarabee checkpoint security system
Multi-phase renovation from a four-lane to five-land checkpoint
