Terminal 1.5 Development Program at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
The Terminal 1.5 Program is the development of a 225,000-square-foot, four-story terminal facility, located between Terminals 1 and 2, designed to support various airlines over the next 20+ years.
The terminal currently serves Southwest Airlines and several other airlines that have shifted their ticketing operations into Terminal 1.5 following the completion of the new Midfield Satellite Concourse. Passengers utilize the ticketing lobby, security checkpoint, and bus gate at Terminal 1.5 to depart LAX from the Midfield Satellite Concourse.
The facility reduces congestion and improves connectivity between Terminals 1 and 2, streamlining passenger movement both in the ticketing areas and post-security. Its airside pedestrian connection allows passengers to transition between terminals without exiting the secure area, eliminating the need to re-clear security for connecting flights.
Notable elements of Terminal 1.5 include baggage claim, ticketing areas, a centralized security checkpoint, an airside connector, retail concessions, and leasable office space. Additional amenities include a bus gate, an outbound baggage system with checked baggage inspection (CBIS), an inbound baggage system, and a loading dock with a receiving area. Vertical circulation systems and dedicated spaces support building services such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and IT systems.
A vertical circulation core links the terminal to the future automated people mover, which will offer passengers convenient access to other airport facilities and improve overall connectivity once the people mover is online.
Features include:
Post-security airside pedestrian connection between Terminals 1 and 2
Concessions
Airline offices and pilot/flight attendant base
