Terminal 4/5 Modernization Program at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
PGAL is providing comprehensive architectural services for American Airlines at Terminals 4 and 5, with the goal of creating a seamless, unified facility that enhances operational efficiency across both concourses.
The project is centered on modernizing passenger processing and amenities, optimizing the passenger experience, and elevating customer service through a range of critical upgrades. These include modernizing and consolidating the security screening checkpoints, expanding baggage claim areas, and enhancing check-in facilities. Additionally, the project focuses on redesigning holdrooms and improving airside connectors for smoother transitions between terminals.
As part of the $1.4 billion program, significant renovations and expansions are planned for the Terminal 4 concourse. The design maximizes the building footprint while maintaining all 15 operational gates, ensuring uninterrupted service during the project. Enhancements also extend to the concessions program, offering travelers a more diverse and engaging retail and dining experience, alongside a noticeable increase in restroom capacity.
The design prioritizes the experience of both guests and employees. The layout promotes operational flexibility and efficiency while emphasizing open spaces, abundant natural light, and intuitive wayfinding to ensure a smooth flow of movement. Furthermore, the project is targeting LEED Gold certification, incorporating sustainable design principles to reduce environmental impact and enhance overall building performance.
