City of Richmond Myrtle Street Buildout
The Myrtle Street Buildout redefines workplace design for the City of Richmond’s Economic Development Department, enhancing efficiency, collaboration, and user experience.
The design repurposes an existing building, balancing a contemporary aesthetic with functionality and adaptability to meet evolving needs.
The optimized floor plan seamlessly integrates all programmatic elements. A welcoming reception area leads into an open workspace that fosters interaction. Dedicated conference rooms provide structured meeting areas, while private leadership offices—including spaces for the Mayor, Commissioner, Director, and Assistant Director—offer accessibility without compromising privacy. Essential service spaces such as IT, storage, and janitorial facilities are strategically located for convenience. Thoughtfully positioned restrooms and break areas support staff well-being, while the layout maximizes natural light and circulation for a comfortable, productive environment.
The material palette blends sophistication with durability. Luxury vinyl tile flooring ensures longevity while enhancing aesthetics. Refined paint selections establish a professional yet inviting atmosphere, complemented by carpet tiles that add warmth. A custom reception desk and a graphic feature wall referencing Richmond’s iconic railroad bridge set a modern tone. In the conference room, a PET ceiling panel enhances acoustics while pendant light fixtures reinforce the contemporary design.
Designed for flexibility, the buildout incorporates telescoping bronze-finished door panels in the conference room, seamlessly connecting it to the adjacent break area. The break space features a well-planned layout with a central island, painted millwork, and a curated backsplash, fostering casual interactions and relaxation.
Sustainability is a core priority, with environmentally friendly finishes, energy-efficient lighting, and responsible material selections supporting long-term performance. The design aligns with modern sustainability standards, promoting efficiency and resource conservation.
The Myrtle Street Buildout successfully merges modern workplace principles with a refined design, setting a new benchmark for civic workspaces in Richmond. With its focus on collaboration, efficiency, and sustainability, the space provides an inspiring and functional environment for the Economic Development Department.
