PGAL Alexandria "Turns Hunger Upside-Down"

Third-Annual ‘PGAL Classic’ Mini Golf Tournament to Benefit Arlington Food Assistance Center

ALEXANDRIA, VA ‐ September 22, 2017 — For the third consecutive year, the PGAL Alexandria office will be transformed into a nine-hole miniature golf course to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center. The international architecture, engineering, and planning firm is hosting the PGAL Classic Mini Golf Tournament on October 5, with proceeds helping to fund PGAL’s participation in the upcoming Canstruction® charity competition, sponsored by AIA Northern Virginia.

Golfers in the third-annual “tournament” will play the nine-hole course, which is designed and constructed by PGAL employees. Themed around Stranger Things, the acclaimed Neflix sci-fi series, the event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at the PGAL offices, 201 North Union Street, Suite 500.. Event sponsors include JVP Engineers, ADI Construction, ISA Architectural, Woods Peacock Engineering Consultants, Clear Channel Airports, Thomas Lee Consulting, Colliers International, and 3Form.

“Our mini golf tournament provides a wonderful opportunity to partner with sponsors, colleagues, and friends to address the issue of hunger in our community,” says Molly Statler, Director of Business Development at PGAL.

PGAL, in collaboration with JVP Engineers, will compete in AIA Northern Virginia’s 14th Annual Canstruction® competition, which features structures that are designed and built entirely from canned food. These structures will be on display at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport from October 27 to November 5.

PGAL’s 2017 structure — “Turn Hunger Upside Down” — will depict the iconic tree that forms the gateway between the upside-down world and the human world in Stranger Things.

After the event, all of the 4,570 cans used to construct the 8-foot-high structure will be donated to the Arlington Food Assistance Center, which provides supplemental groceries to Arlington neighbors in need. Hosted annually in more than 150 cities around the world, Canstruction® events have donated more than 50 million pounds of food to local food banks since 1992.

Thanks to the contributions of its friends and supporters, PGAL has donated more than 9,000 canned goods and nearly $10,000 to AFAC over the past two years.
